How to prevent Squirrels from entering your residing

Squirrels often inspire smiles and laughter since they are little creatures. However for gardeners who find dug up tomatoes chewed, these bushy trailed creatures are not much attracted by, except for frustration and so certain of you may also have other troubles with squirrels and wondering if there are any possible ways to keep squirrels away. Squirrels have long incisor teeth that never stop growing, so they tend to gnaw on all sorts of food or materials they come across to keep these teeth on the short side as much as possible.

Remove what attracts them
If you have a yard along with fruits and plants grown, then this could be the main reason for Squirrels to be attracted. The sight and smell of fallen fruit, nuts, seed and other kinds of food can lure squirrels into your yard for feeding. So make sure you clean up these fallen fruits or any other foods in and secure them in a tightly closed garbage can so that you can keep the squirrels away from discovering the little treats in the garbage.

Repel
There are several recipes available for repelling squirrels. Some feature capsaicin, the compound that gives hot peppers their heat. Others which include peppermint oil, or vinegar or a combination of these ingredients makes a great repellent for squirrels. Make sure you re-apply these sprays after rain, do not spray the plants that you intend to eat.

Distract them
Set up a food station with all the treats that squirrels love in an isolated corner of your yard. Some people grow tomatoes in this isolated part of the yard in order to feed squirrels. However make sure you include water in your squirrel’s pit-stop. Growing a few tomatoes in a corner is the best way to keep squirrels away from all other fruits and vegetables of your yard. Also feeding them isn’t a bad thing, they are cute little creatures who would cause you no harm.

Consider building fences
Building fences around your yard and house is the next best way to keep squirrels away. These would notify them that you are well aware of their existence in the yard or house, and so these curious creatures would not cause you any further trouble. However squirrels tend to get scared real fast, so it is easy to scare them off.

Scare them
You can get your Dog or cat to scare off the squirrels and keep them away from your residing. Once your dog barks they would run away within a few seconds. Which all this you would have very less of a problem with squirrels interfering with your yard again. However if you don’t seem to have a pet, then you can purchase vials or predator pee of wolf or tiger to place in different places of your garden, these scent terrifies almost all kinds of animals, including squirrels, rabbits and deer’s. With just a little spray of this urine you will be squirrel proof in no time. However remember to re-spray after the rain.

Create a cage using hardware cloth or chicken wire topped with plastic bird netting and use clothespins to hold this in place.

Inspect your house for any holes

Pay a close attention to all holes in your house, and make sure you inspect your house from top to bottom, patch up and seal every opening that you find to prevent Squirrels from entering inside your house. Keeping squirrels out of your house is way easier than keeping them out from your yard, since your yard is an open space, but your house has its own protective layers of walls, windows, roof and more.

Chewing wood
If this squirrel that’s causing you trouble is chewing on your house’ surrounding of woods, then that could be a big problem. However, try spreading some hot sauce around the areas that they tend to chew, they would not want to chew on hot sauce on anymore, nor on your woods, and this would leave them with fear, and will dis-continue in chewing around your house.
